You will be able to see the current detention status for patients that you have access to on eMHA. MHA status may not be live with your organisation yet, if you cannot see this functionality and have further questions please contact your mental health law team.
What is MHA status?
- This captures the current MHA status of the patient and will automatically update when a form is completed in eMHA that changes the powers or expiry dates.
- The status refers to in hospital detentions, CTOs and discharges.
Where is this information from?
- The status, expiry, renewals/extensions and organisation displayed are either automatically populated from a eMHA by forms completed on Thalamos or has been manually input by an administrator where forms have not been completed on Thalamos.
- They reflect the most recent change on the eMHA system. To see more details, you can hover over the information icons in the banner.
What should you do if you think this information is incorrect?
- Please contact your mental health law team if you think that a status needs to be updated, as they will have permissions to update this manually.
If non-eMHA forms have been used, or if the patient has been moved without manual updates, the status may not be accurate. MHA legal teams will be able to manually update statuses, therefore if you know that the status is inaccurate as forms have been completed outside of eMHA, you should contact them to amend this. The Thalamos MHA Patient Status relies on information points generated from eMHA forms or which have been manually input by an administrator. If users do not use eMHA for all functions, the MHA Patient Status can be inaccurate and can lead to significant clinical risk if subsequent clinical decisions are based on this incomplete status. It is therefore essential that users use eMHA to record all periods of detention and discharge, including the discharge from holding powers form.
