How to Request Police Presence as a Healthcare Professional

Step 1: When you first access the Section 136 form on eMHA, you will be asked to confirm if this is your place of safety for this incident.




Step 2: You will now be if the police are present at your place of safety.


Step 3: You will now be able to request ongoing police presence at your place of safety.



Step 4. If ongoing police presence is requested, you will need to explain why police presence is needed. 

You have three options to choice from:
  • To protect people from an immediate risk to life, or being subject to/at risk of serious harm
  • Not enough staff
  • Person needs transfer to another place of safety for assessment
  • Other

After selecting a reason, please provide additional details, including any risk assessments conducted, in the free text box.



Step 5: Click ‘Confirm’ to submit your request.

Your request will be sent to the responsible officer, who will review and either accept or reject it.



Step 6: Until a decision is made by the police officer as to whether they will remain at the your place of safety or not, a banner will be displayed below.


Step 7: If the request is declined, a banner will be displayed.


Step 8: If the request is accepted, a banner will be displayed.
