Understanding NHS number statuses

Info
If you see an NHS number with a Yellow or Red status and you are unsure of what to do, take no action and contact your organisations demographics team for advice.

When eMHA is linked to RiO and PDS (The Spine), a patient's record shows a status icon alongside the NHS number, so staff know whether the number is valid, verified, or requires action.

There are 3 different statuses which can show here:

Blue Tick
NHS number is verified by PDS
Matched against RiO and PDS
No action needed

Yellow Tick
NHS number is known and linked to Rio
NHS number not matched against PDS

Error Icon
NHS number is invalid or superseded
Action required to update or merge records
Check patient details carefully
